Cindy Vinson is one such supporter (she supported President Obama in 2008). This month, like many Americans who have health insurance through their employer or private insurers<\/a>, Vinson got an\u00a0unwanted awakening to the reality<\/a>\u00a0of government sponsored wealth confiscation and redistribution:<\/p>\n

Cindy Vinson and Tom Waschura are\u00a0big believers in the<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Affordable<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Care Act<\/strong>. They vote independent and\u00a0are proud to say they helped elect and re-elect President Barack Obama<\/a><\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Yet, like many other Bay Area<\/a> residents who pay for their own medical insurance<\/a>,\u00a0they were floored last week when they opened their bills<\/strong>: Their policies were being replaced with pricier plans that conform to all the requirements of the new health care law.<\/em><\/p>\n

Vinson, of San Jose<\/a>, will pay $1,800 more a year for an individual policy, while Waschura, of Portola Valley<\/a>, will cough up almost $10,000 more for insurance for his family of four.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI was laughing at Boehner \u2014 until the mail came today,\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Waschura said, referring to House Speaker John Boehner<\/a>, who is leading the Republican charge to defund Obamacare.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI really don\u2019t like the Republican tactics, but at least now I can understand why they are so pissed about this. When you take $10,000 out of my family\u2019s pocket each year, that\u2019s otherwise disposable income or retirement savings that will not be going into our local economy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Both Vinson and Waschura have adjusted gross incomes greater than four times\u00a0the federal\u00a0poverty level<\/a> \u2014 the\u00a0cutoff\u00a0for a tax credit. And while both said they anticipated their rates would go up, they didn\u2019t realize they would rise so much.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, I want people to have health care,\u201d Vinson said. \u201cI just didn\u2019t realize I would be the\u00a0one who was going to pay for it personally.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
