This is not a joke. It seems as if America<\/a> is bending over backwards to help those who are here illegally at the expense of those who are here legally<\/a> and sacrificed for their country. Both senior citizens and veterans are being slighted in order to accommodate those who have come here illegally. We all know about the scandals in the Veteran’s Administration<\/a>. How much money that should have gone to our veterans has gone to feed, clothe, and provide medical care for those who are here illegally? It gets worse. Now all Americans are about to be put in a position where they will be paying for full healthcare benefits for people who are here illegally.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Townhall.com<\/a> posted an article\u00a0stating:<\/p>\n

The Democratic leadership is apparently this week seeking, in a bill\u00a0authored by Representative Luis Gutierrez<\/a>, to change current law. His bill, framed as a denial of benefits (really?) offers illegals \u201caccess to the healthcare exchanges in Obamacare under ordinary rules of residency in the states in which they live.\u201d That would, as he says, make them \u201cjust like the rest of us.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before we get all enthusiastic about new enrollment in ObamaCare<\/a>, let’s look and see how well it is working.<\/p>\n

The article reports:<\/p>\n

If we are going to get serious about health care, let us unpack this problem \u2013 and this irony \u2013 quite succinctly. First, the Obama White House<\/a> said that the \u201ccost curve\u201d would \u201cbend downwards\u201d for Americans, not upwards. Again, we are presented with incontrovertible proof that this nationalized healthcare idea is morally and economically bankrupt. Bad policy begets waste. This policy wastes taxpayer dollars at an accelerating and incalculable rate, while delivering less and less to a majority of hard working and pension-tied Americans, the operational definition of failure.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The numbers that back up the failure are staggering. In one state alone, Minnesota, the numbers tell a story that should leave every member of Congress embarrassed, shocked or both. 2016 state rate increases are sobering, if not objectively tragic for many seniors. \u201cAlmost 180,000 Minnesotans will see increases of at least 45%, which is more than half of all customers\u201d on that State\u2019s exchange. Now multiply that spike nationwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let’s concentrate of fixing (or getting rid of) ObamaCare for Americans. Then we can talk about providing healthcare for people who are here illegally. One thing to remember in this debate is that is it illegal for a hospital to turn away anyone in need of emergency medical care.<\/p>\n

The Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor<\/a> Act (EMTALA<\/a>) states the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1986, Congress enacted the Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) to ensure public access to emergency services regardless of ability to pay. Section 1867 of the Social Security Act<\/a> imposes specific obligations on Medicare-participating hospitals that offer emergency services to provide a medical screening examination (MSE) when a request is made for examination or treatment for an emergency medical condition (EMC<\/a>), including active labor, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. Hospitals are then required to provide stabilizing treatment for patients with EMCs. If a hospital is unable to stabilize a patient within its capability, or if the patient requests, an appropriate transfer should be implemented.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If this law is obeyed, every American, here legally or otherwise, has access to medical care. If this law is not being obeyed, those breaking it need to held accountable. That should be the extent of the government’s involvement in healthcare–uphold the law–not take over the industry.<\/p>\n
