Gun violence is often the problem cited because it is the most obvious. Some of the people who want to fight <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Gun violence\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gun_violence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">gun violence<\/a> seem to have lost the concept of common sense.<\/p>\n<p>This is a chart from a website called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunfacts.info\/gun-control-myths\/crime-and-guns\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gun Facts<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/crime-and-guns-property-crimes-and-handgun-supply-400x321.png\" alt=\"CRIME AND GUNS - Property Crimes and Handgun Supply\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There is a lot of good information on the site. Here are a few of the facts cited:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Fact: 60% of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Felony\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Felony\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">convicted felons<\/a> admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they knew the victim was armed. 40% of convicted felons admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they thought the victim might be armed. <a id=\"return-note-93-7\" class=\"simple-footnote\" title=\"Armed and Considered Dangerous: A Survey of Felons and Their Firearms, James Wright and Peter Rossi, Aldine, 1986\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gunfacts.info\/gun-control-myths\/crime-and-guns\/#note-93-7\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Fact: Felons report that they avoid entering houses where people are at home because they fear being shot. <a id=\"return-note-93-8\" class=\"simple-footnote\" title=\"Armed and Considered Dangerous: A Survey of Felons and Their Firearms, James Wright and Peter Rossi, Aldine, 1986\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gunfacts.info\/gun-control-myths\/crime-and-guns\/#note-93-8\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Fact: 59% of the burglaries in Britain, which has tough <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Gun politics in the United States\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gun_politics_in_the_United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">gun control laws<\/a>, are \u201chot burglaries\u201d <a id=\"return-note-93-9\" class=\"simple-footnote\" title=\"A \u201chot burglary\u201d is when the burglar enters a home while the residents are there\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gunfacts.info\/gun-control-myths\/crime-and-guns\/#note-93-9\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0which are burglaries committed while the home is occupied by the owner\/renter. There, the murder rate is just 1.6 per 100,000, less than three percent of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Washington, D.C.\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8951111111,-77.0366666667&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=38.8951111111,-77.0366666667 (Washington%2C%20D.C.)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Washington, DC<\/a> rate. <a id=\"return-note-93-12\" class=\"simple-footnote\" title=\"Crime in the United States, FBI, 1998\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gunfacts.info\/gun-control-myths\/crime-and-guns\/#note-93-12\"><sup>12<\/sup><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please visit the site to check the sources on the footnotes.<\/p>\n<p>All this brings me to a story from <a href=\"http:\/\/boston.cbslocal.com\/2015\/09\/10\/boston-gun-owners-letter\/\" target=\"_blank\">CBS Boston<\/a> posted on Thursday. Boston Mayor <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Marty Walsh\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marty_Walsh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Marty Walsh<\/a> and Police Commissioner William Evans have formulated a plan to reduce gun violence in Boston. The first step of the plan involves sending\u00a0a letter to all gun owners.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The letter will give gun owners information about reporting a private gun sale, loss or theft. It also advertises a free <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Gun safety\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gun_safety\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">gun lock<\/a>, a program that offers a $200 gift card if a firearm owner turns in their weapon and advice on gun storage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cAs a legal gun owner, it is important that you also do your part to ensure that guns are stored safely, and\u00a0kept out of the hands of children and criminals,\u201d the letter states.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Deadly shootings\u00a0have dropped 30 percent compared to this time last year, but the city has seen more non-fatal shootings, police say.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cWe must think creatively in order to reduce the amount of illegal guns and violence on our streets,\u201d Walsh said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The city will also reach out to gun vendors about preventing illegal firearm sales.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I fully support safety courses for people who own guns, but the people who legally own guns are not the problem. Statistics show that crime goes down when more people legally own guns. Boston&#8217;s problem won&#8217;t be solved by buying back guns&#8211;it might be solved by allowing more of its upstanding citizens to own guns and ending\u00a0the hassle <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Massachusetts\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=42.3,-71.8&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=42.3,-71.8 (Massachusetts)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Massachusetts<\/a> puts you through to get a gun permit.
