The Daily Caller<\/a> posted a story today reporting\u00a0that\u00a0Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, who fired the bullet that killed\u00a0Kate Steinle in San Francisco<\/a> on July 1, has stated that he did not intend to kill<\/a> Ms. Steinle. My question is simple, “Why was he firing a gun on the San Francisco Pier in the first place?” \u00a0As you know if you read this blog regularly, I fully support gun rights<\/a>, but I don’t support people being stupid with guns. I support things like gun safety<\/a> courses in high schools, and people being taught to respect guns and the damage they can do. Mr. Lopez-Sanchez belongs in jail for many reasons, one\u00a0of which is firing a gun in a public place<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the Associated Press<\/a>, Gonzalez (Matt Gonzalez<\/a>, who is representing Mr. Lopez-Sanchez) said in court that Lopez-Sanchez \u201cmishandled\u201d the gun.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But a San Francisco police ballistics expert said that the gun was in good condition and would not have been prone to an accidental firing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPulling<\/a> the trigger, however that trigger was pulled, was the only way for that gun to discharge,\u201d the expert said. \u201cThis gun could not just be sitting on a table and all of a sudden, due to some malfunction, go off.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aside from the fact that this is a very serious matter in which a woman was killed, I put that excuse on about the same level as “the dog ate my homework.”<\/p>\n
