John Hinderaker<\/a> at Power Line<\/a> posted an article today about the battle between Ted Cruz<\/a> and The New York Times<\/a> on the subject of Ted Cruz’s book, A Time for Truth<\/a>. Ted Cruz has been on a book-selling tour drawing long lines of people buying signed copies of the book. According to Bookscan, the book is the third bestselling hardcover non-fiction book in the country. However, the book is nowhere to be found on The New York Times Top 20 \u00a0Best Seller List<\/a>. The New York Times claims,\u00a0\u201cIn the case of this book, the overwhelming preponderance of evidence was that sales were limited to strategic bulk purchases.\u201d<\/p>\n

The article reports\u00a0the response from\u00a0Ted Cruz and his political campaign:<\/p>\n

This statement is false, and the Times knows it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There were no \u201cstrategic bulk purchases.\u201d Cruz spent last week on a nation-wide book tour, signing copies of his book at multiple locations. Booksellers at each event had long lines\u2014sometimes over 400 people per event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe\u00a0Times\u00a0is presumably embarrassed by having their obvious partisan bias called out. But their response\u2014alleging \u2018strategic bulk purchases\u2019\u2014is a blatant falsehood,\u201d said Cruz campaign spokesperson Rick Tyler. \u201cThe evidence is directly to the contrary. In leveling this false charge, the Times has tried to impugn the integrity of Senator Cruz and of his publisher Harper Collins.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe call on the Times, release your so-called \u2018evidence.\u2019 Demonstrate that your charge isn\u2019t simply a naked fabrication, designed to cover up your own partisan agenda. And, if you cannot do so, then issue a public apology to Senator Cruz and Harper Collins editor Adam Bellow<\/a> for making false charges against them.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article at Power Line reports that right now Ted Cruz’s book ranks number 9 in sales among all the books at Amazon<\/a>. I do question The New York Times’ judgement on this. It will be interesting to see if they continue to ignore the book or if they attempt to come up with evidence to back up their charges that the sales of the book are only in bulk–not individual sales.<\/p>\n
