{"id":25936,"date":"2015-07-01T11:00:40","date_gmt":"2015-07-01T15:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=25936"},"modified":"2015-07-01T11:00:40","modified_gmt":"2015-07-01T15:00:40","slug":"huh-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=25936","title":{"rendered":"Huh????"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanthinker.com\/blog\/2015\/06\/supremes_citizenship_not_necessary_for_voter_registration.html\" target=\"_blank\">The American Thinker<\/a> posted an article about a recent decision by the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Supreme Court of the United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8907083333,-77.0043444444&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8907083333,-77.0043444444 (Supreme%20Court%20of%20the%20United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Supreme Court<\/a> not to hear a case regarding <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Citizenship\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Citizenship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">proof of citizenship<\/a> for voter registration.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>In a commonsense decision, the Supreme Court <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.atr.rollcall.com\/supreme-court-victory-for-voting-rights-advocates\/?dcz=\">refused to hear an appeal<\/a> of a case that decided that people registering to vote in federal election don&#8217;t have to prove their citizenship. \u00a0That means that people registering to vote won&#8217;t be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/government-politics\/article3654328.html#storylink=cpy\">bullied into proving citizenship<\/a>, which now seems to be an irrelevant criterion for voting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cI am very pleased, obviously,\u201d said <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Dolores Furtado\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dolores_Furtado\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Dolores Furtado<\/a>, president of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Kansas\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.45,-96.5333333333&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.45,-96.5333333333 (Kansas)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Kansas<\/a> chapter of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"League of Women Voters\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lwv.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">League of Women Voters<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a good feeling because we\u2019re truly trying to help\u201d people get registered to vote.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Furtado said the league\u2019s main interest is in increasing participation in the democratic process \u201crather than trying to make more hoops, more steps, to go through.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It would have been nice if the Supreme Court had ruled on this; however, there is an interesting consequence of this decision that will give Kansas a more honest election on the state and local level.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.atr.rollcall.com\/supreme-court-victory-for-voting-rights-advocates\/?dcz=\" target=\"_blank\">Roll Call<\/a> posted an article explaining how the decision of the Supreme Court not to take the case would impact <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Elections in Kansas\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elections_in_Kansas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">elections in Kansas<\/a> and Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The Kansas and Arizona laws stand, meaning that people wishing to\u00a0register to vote with state forms are required to show proof of citizenship.\u00a0Kobach said more than\u00a099 percent of Kansans use the state forms. \u201cBut because of the Supreme Court decision not to review the case,\u201d he added, \u201cwe do have a small limited loophole.\u201d The slim majority that uses the federal form can \u201crefuse to provide proof of citizenship,\u201d he said, \u201cbut that will only suffice for federal elections.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Article I Section 2 of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Constitution\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Constitution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">U.S. Constitution<\/a> states:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"State legislature (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/State_legislature_%28United_States%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">State Legislature<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Basically that means that each state can set the standard for who is allowed to vote. Obviously, because there is a federal form people can use in Kansas, there is a way of circumventing that law by using the federal form. However, using the federal form only allows people to vote in federal elections. This is another example of the federal government overriding the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>I really wonder who came up with the bright idea that non-citizens would be able to vote in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">American<\/a> elections.
