If you read this site for the news and news links, you might want to skip this story.  <\/span>It is rather personal, and it is simply an observation that I think applies to the Christmas season.<\/font><\/p>\n

I am not always the smartest person in the room, and on some occasions, I am probably the dumbest (as any of us is capable of being).  <\/span>The following story is true, and it is not one of my shining moments, but there is something to be learned from it.<\/font><\/p>\n

I love Christmas, and I love Christmas earrings.  <\/span>Last year I found a pair of Christmas earrings that said “Ho, Ho, Ho.”  <\/span>I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to wear them.  <\/span>First chance I had, I put them on.  <\/span>I was going out with my husband that night and went to do a final check in the mirror.  <\/span>To my shock and disappointment, the earrings said “Oh, Oh, Oh.”  <\/span>I figured that because they had words on them, they must be like shoes–there was a left and right one.  <\/span>So I switched them and looked in the mirror again.  <\/span>They still said, “Oh, Oh, Oh.”  <\/span>Then the light dawned.  <\/span>A mirror is a reflection–not a true picture.<\/font><\/p>\n

Now there is a point to this silly story (which really is true).  <\/span>Every day we look into the mirror to comb our hair, put on make-up, shave, etc.  <\/span>We really don’t think about the fact that we are looking at a reflection–we are not looking at actual reality.  <\/span>Most of the time that doesn’t matter–sometimes it does.  <\/span>We aren’t even aware of the fact that our perspective is not real.<\/font><\/p>\n

It’s Christmas.  <\/span>We are in a world of malls decorated with beautiful colored ornaments and beautifully decorated trees.  <\/span>Everyone is buying gifts.  <\/span>The perspective on television is all the things we absolutely have to do or have to make Christmas perfect.   <\/span>Where is your perspective?  <\/span>Is it a reflection of the mall, the television and the shopping or is it a reflection of the reason for the season?  <\/span>We give gifts because God gave us the greatest gift of all.  <\/span>Are you celebrating Jesus’ birthday or are you celebrating something that you see around you?  <\/span>Are you seeing “Oh, Oh, Oh, or have you reached the point where in faith you know the earrings do actually say “Ho, Ho, Ho” regardless of what you are seeing?<\/font><\/p>\n
