There was rejoicing that the unemployment rate had dropped to 5.5 percent. You might want to hold off on that rejoicing for a bit.<\/p>\n<p>The article includes a chart showing what the unemployment number actually is when you add in the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Labor force\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labor_force\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">labor force<\/a> dropouts:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36606\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/unemployment-rate-with-labor-force-dropouts-march-2015.jpg\" alt=\"Unemployment Rate With Labor Force Dropouts March 2015\" width=\"726\" height=\"476\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the actual unemployment rate is closer to 10 percent. So, if you know anyone who is unemployed and can&#8217;t understand why it is so hard to find a job, show them the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Real number\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Real_number\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">real numbers<\/a>. It might make them feel better.<\/p>\n<p>The article explains:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>This decline (the decline in the labor force participation rate) has significant effects on the official unemployment rate. People who are unemployed and eventually stop looking for work are no longer counted as being part of the labor force, which means they\u2019re no longer counted by U.S. statistical agencies as being unemployed (you can read in detail about the math underlying this dynamic <a href=\"http:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2014\/01\/10\/thank-labor-force-dropouts-not-new-jobs-for-a-falling-unemployment-rate\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>). The result?
