The charges are against\u00a0<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Catalist\" href=\"http:\/\/catalist.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Catalist<\/a>, a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Washington, D.C.\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8951111111,-77.0366666667&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=38.8951111111,-77.0366666667 (Washington%2C%20D.C.)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Washington, D.C.<\/a>-based firm.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Catalist, the Washington, D.C.-based firm at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catalist.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">heart of the allegations<\/a>, was accused of &#8220;providing candidates and federal party committees data and list-related products and services at below-market rates, constituting excessive, source-prohibited, and unreported in-kind contributions&#8221; to the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic National Committee\" href=\"http:\/\/democrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democratic National Committee<\/a>, the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dccc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee<\/a> and the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dscc.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Also named in the complaint were nearly 400 Democratic campaign committees, including Obama for America, the re-election committee for DNC national chairman Rep. <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Debbie Wasserman Schultz\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Debbie_Wasserman_Schultz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Debbie Wasserman-Schultz<\/a>, and the re-election committee for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Nancy Pelosi\" href=\"http:\/\/pelosi.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Additionally, the complaint charged that Catalist engaged &#8220;in an illegal coordination scheme where the common vendors use their specific products and services to exchange their campaigns and parties data with soft-money groups making independent expenditures.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The nonprofit watchdog further charged that Catalist was &#8220;established, financed, maintained and\/or controlled by the Democratic National Committee.&#8221; The complaint was first reported by the Washington Free Beacon&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/complaint-extensive-campaign-finance-violations-by-clinton-tied-data-firm\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lachlan Markay<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Follow the link above to the Washington Examiner to read the entire complaint&#8211;it is included in the article.<\/p>\n<p>The article states:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Former U.S. Attorney Matthew Whitaker, who heads the nonprofit watchdog, estimated that Catalist and the other committees and allied groups named in the complaint spent more than $100 million in illegally coordinated and unreported campaign contributions in 2014.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On February 18, 2015, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/news\/2015\/02\/final-tally-2014s-midterm-was-most-expensive-with-fewer-donors\/\" target=\"_blank\">opensecrets.org<\/a> reported the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The final figures are in: The 2014 election was the most expensive midterm election in history, costing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/overview\/cost.php\">a grand total of $3.77 billion<\/a>. But for the first time since 1990, fewer <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Americans<\/a> donated money in this midterm election than the one before. Simply put, more money went into the system, but fewer people provided it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;Even when it came to outside spending groups, there were fewer donors. In 2010, there were 57,405 individual donors to outside spending groups (including 527s) who gave a total of $104.6 million, or roughly $1,800 apiece.\u00a0In 2014, there were 53,725 donors to outside groups, whose average donation was $8,011. That\u2019s an increase in the size of the average donation of almost 445 percent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are not going to be able to take the money out of elections.
