{"id":24789,"date":"2015-01-14T17:16:27","date_gmt":"2015-01-14T22:16:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=24789"},"modified":"2015-01-14T17:16:27","modified_gmt":"2015-01-14T22:16:27","slug":"quote-of-the-week-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=24789","title":{"rendered":"Quote Of The Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Taken from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2015\/01\/the-california-donnybrook-start-the-popcorn-machine.php\" target=\"_blank\">Power Line<\/a> article posted today by Steven Hayward:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>I have a good conservative friend who has lived in Washington, DC most of his adult life, where he is a registered <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Party (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.democrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democrat<\/a>, so that he could vote for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Marion Barry\" href=\"http:\/\/dccouncil.us\/council\/marion-barry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Marion Barry<\/a> in Democratic primaries, on the theory that \u201cif you can\u2019t have effective government, at least you can have entertaining government.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article is about the Democrat race in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"California\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=37.0,-120.0&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=37.0,-120.0 (California)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">California<\/a> to replace <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Barbara Boxer\" href=\"http:\/\/boxer.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Barbara Boxer<\/a>. The author of the article feels that the above quote defines the race.<\/p>\n<p>The article also mentions another aspect of the race:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Former LA mayor <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Antonio Villaraigosa\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antonio_Villaraigosa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Antonio Villaraigosa<\/a> is said to be interested in running, and also Rep. <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Loretta Sanchez\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Loretta_Sanchez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Loretta Sanchez<\/a>. Mixed-race (and therefore a two-fer) Attorney General <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Kamala Harris\" href=\"http:\/\/ag.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Kamala Harris<\/a> has indicated she may make the race. Lt. Governor <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Gavin Newsom\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gavin_Newsom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Gavin Newsome<\/a>, perhaps the leading white guy Dem in the state, will probably take a pass and run for governor in 2018 instead. So is there another white guy anywhere who might make a serious candidate? Ah yes, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/politics\/articles\/2015-01-13\/steyer-promises-decision-on-california-senate-bid-soon\">Tom Steyer is thinking about it<\/a>. I think he\u2019s going to be surprised when he finds out he doesn\u2019t have the proper melanin privilege for today\u2019s Democratic Party.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>But he will deliver lots of comedy gold in any case, such as his comment to the <em>Puffington Host<\/em> a few days ago that \u201cPeople rail that democracy has been subverted to powerful economic interests, that \u2018we the people\u2019 have been overlooked. Based on what I have seen over the last several years, I fear there\u2019s some truth in that charge, and that scares me\u2014badly.\u201d \u201cPowerful economic interests\u201d?\u2014from a billionaire who spent $100 million trying to influence the last election?
