Fox News<\/a> is reporting today that no one seems to know the status of the 53 political dissidents in Cuba<\/a> who were supposed to be freed as part of the deal to normalize relations between the United States<\/a> and Cuba.<\/p>\n

The article reports:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very concerned,\u201d Francisco Hernandez<\/a>, co-founder and president of the Cuban American National Foundation<\/a>, told FoxNews.com. \u201cThe problem with the agreement [between Cuba and the U.S.] is that there is no agreement. There are no guarantees. This has been a tremendous victory for the Cuban government<\/a>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hernandez\u2019s Miami-based organization has contacted the White House and pressed officials to publicly identify the dissidents scheduled for release. He hasn\u2019t had much luck and says the push for transparency has been widely ignored and in turn is fueling suspicion over Cuba\u2019s intentions. He and others question whether the Cubans supposedly set for release are even political prisoners.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe wonder why there has not been any indication \u2013 especially on the part of the White House \u2013 who is on the list,\u201d Hernandez said. \u201cWe want to confirm that those on the list are political prisoners and not common criminals, but we have not been able to.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
