The Nobel Peace Prize<\/a> committee has made some interesting choices in the past. Generally speaking, they have often considered politics rather than substance. This year, however, I think they have gotten it right.<\/p>\n

The Washington Post<\/a> posted a story today about the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Malala Yousafzai<\/a> and Kailash Satyarthi<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Malala Yousafzai, who at 17 became the youngest Nobel laureate<\/a>, won the prize exactly two years and one day after she was nearly killed by a bullet to the head during a Taliban<\/a> assassination attempt in her native Swat Valley<\/a>. She was targeted for her outspoken advocacy of female education<\/a> \u2014 a cause she has championed relentlessly ever since, in spite of further threats.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking from the British city of Birmingham on Friday, she reveled in the committee\u2019s decision to share her prize with an Indian, 60-year-old Kailash Satyarthi, who has spent decades crusading against child slavery<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
