{"id":23923,"date":"2014-09-23T17:57:16","date_gmt":"2014-09-23T21:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=23923"},"modified":"2014-09-23T17:57:16","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T21:57:16","slug":"the-fight-to-end-common-core-in-north-carolina-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=23923","title":{"rendered":"The Fight To End Common Core In North Carolina Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, some members of the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association (CCTA) attended the NC Academic Standards Review Commission&#8217;s First Meeting.<\/p>\n<p>This is the report from the meeting from one of the attendees:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Conference hall\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Conference_hall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">meeting room<\/a> was very crowded.\u00a0 It was also hot, and uncomfortable.\u00a0 CCTA\u2019s Common Core Committee with Kim Fink, our <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Chairman\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chairman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Chairman<\/a>, was in attendance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Unfortunately, it appeared to us that the review committee had been stacked with supporters of Common Core, although it was clear that some of the members definitely want the standards adopted to be <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"North Carolina\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=35.5,-80.0&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=35.5,-80.0 (North%20Carolina)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">North Carolina<\/a> Standards.\u00a0 Senator <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Jerry W. Tillman\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jerry_W._Tillman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Jerry Tillman<\/a> made an impassioned statement that <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">the US<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Constitution\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Constitution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Constitution<\/a> left eduction to the people and the States by not directly allocating authority for education to the federal government.\u00a0 He also said that the \u201cbar must be raised\u201d because NC\u2019s children need to compete in national and world economies and that our top quarter of school graduates were not fairing well in competition with other states and the rest of the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Senator Tillman said the General Assembly would not stand for a re-hash of Common Core, but expected the review committee to do its job and develop North Carolina Education Standards which he said would drive curriculum, something proponents of Common Core deny.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is up to parents and grandparents to get involved in this battle against Common Core. Common Core is not good for our children and needs to be stopped. The curriculum related to the standards is not the only problem&#8211;Common Core involves data mining of personal information on our children and grandchildren with no guarantee of the security of the data.
