Well, Texas has done something else right&#8211;it has rejected the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"AP United States History\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AP_United_States_History\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Advanced Placement United States History<\/a> (APUSH) <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Curriculum\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Curriculum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Curriculum<\/a> put out by the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"College Board\" href=\"http:\/\/www.collegeboard.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">College Board<\/a>. I recently posted an article detailing a few of the ideas put forth in APUSH (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=23870\" target=\"_blank\">rightwinggranny.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday a website called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educationviews.org\/momentous-sboe-votes-patriotism-protected-americas-students\/\" target=\"_blank\">education views.org<\/a> posted an article detailing what the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Texas\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=31.0,-100.0&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=31.0,-100.0 (Texas)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">State of Texas<\/a> has done with APUSH. Texas is regarded as the state that sets the standard for textbooks across the nation.<\/p>\n<p>The article states:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Texas has decided that the curriculum standards adopted by the elected members of the SBOE (State <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Board of education\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Board_of_education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Board of Education<\/a>) will prevail and that the College Board (a private entity that is totally aligned now with the Common Core) will not be allowed to dictate its biased and revisionist curriculum to Texas students. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Capitalism\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Capitalism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">free enterprise system<\/a> and American exceptionalism will prevail in Texas, and many other states are expected to follow Texas\u2019 example. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please follow the link to the article to see the videos of the testimony of Larry Krieger and Alice Linahan as they testified before the SBOE.<\/p>\n<p>The article also includes the Resolution which adopts the SBOE standards. That Resolution includes the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>WHEREAS\u00a0the Texas Education Code (TEC)\u00a0Section 28.002(h) states:\u00a0 \u201cThe State Board of Education and each school district <\/strong><strong>shall foster the continuation of the tradition of teaching <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">United States<\/a> and Texas history and the free enterprise system <\/strong><strong>in regular subject matter and in reading courses and in the adoption of instructional materials.\u00a0 A primary purpose of the public school curriculum is to prepare thoughtful, active citizens <\/strong><strong>who understand the importance of patriotism and can function productively in a free enterprise society with appreciation for the basic democratic values of our state and national heritage.\u201d<\/strong><strong>; and \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;WHEREAS\u00a0the Framework reflects a view of American history that is critical of American exceptionalism, the free enterprise system, and emphasizes negative aspects of our nation\u2019s history while minimizing positive aspects<\/strong><strong>; and<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u00a0WHEREAS <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Howard Zinn\" href=\"http:\/\/howardzinn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Howard Zinn<\/a>\u2019s book <em>A People\u2019s History of the United States<\/em> is recommended as supplementary material in the four model syllabi originally presented at the APUSH 2014 Summer Institute and online; <\/strong><strong>and<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u00a0WHEREAS\u00a0the Framework omits discussion of various critical topics, including the Founding Fathers and the Declaration of Independence, constitutional principles, significant religious influences, military history, commanders and heroes, as well as individuals who have traditionally been part of APUSH; <\/strong><strong>and<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;RESOLVED, That the SBOE strongly recommends that the College Board revise the APUSH Framework so that it is consistent both with the course\u2019s traditional mission and with the shared purpose of the CCRS, the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Texas_Essential_Knowledge_and_Skills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">TEKS<\/a> and the Texas Education Code; and be it further<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u00a0RESOLVED, That the SBOE respectfully requests that the College Board\u00a0revise\u00a0the key concepts of the APUSH Framework and examination in a transparent manner <\/strong><strong>that accurately reflects U.S. history without an ideological bias <\/strong><strong>and that restores and encourages flexibility to states, school districts and teachers in how to teach the course; and be it further<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u00a0RESOLVED, That the SBOE will diligently monitor the proposed actions of the College Board to ensure that the remedial measures set out above are implemented in an effective and meaningful manner; and be it finally<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u00a0RESOLVED,\u00a0That upon approval of this resolution the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Texas Education Agency\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tea.state.tx.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Texas State Board of Education<\/a> shall deliver a copy to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Speaker of the House.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Texas, for showing America how to deal with APUSH!<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have all heard about the good things that are happening in Texas&#8211;the state economy is booming, the population is growing, laws have been passed to encourage businesses to relocate there (and businesses are relocating there).
