{"id":2388,"date":"2010-11-04T06:34:42","date_gmt":"2010-11-04T06:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=2388"},"modified":"2010-11-04T06:34:42","modified_gmt":"2010-11-04T06:34:42","slug":"denver_proves_inhospitable_to","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=2388","title":{"rendered":"Denver Proves Inhospitable To Extraterrestrials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/washwire\/2010\/11\/03\/denver-voters-nix-ufo-affairs-panel\/\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>&nbsp;reported that voters&nbsp; in Denver rejected Ballot Initiative 300, which would have set up an Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission, stocked with Ph.D. scientists, to &#8220;ensure the health, safety and cultural awareness of Denver residents&#8221; when it comes to future contact &#8220;with extraterrestrial intelligent beings or their vehicles.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>When you listen to some of the statements made by the people supporting this, you really do wonder what the people who began the initiative were thinking.&nbsp; The campaign to pass the initiative was run by Jeff Peckham.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><em>&#8220;&#8221;It took, what, 18 years for health-care reform to happen,&#8221; Mr. Peckham said. &#8220;And how many years for women to get the vote? So some big things take a while to get going.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Supporters of the measure that argued that it would position Denver as the Roswell of the Rockies and attract sci-fi and space-related business and tourism.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;&#8221;Look at your Star Trek conventions!
