Yesterday the Washington Free Beacon<\/a> reported that California State Senator<\/a> Roderick Wright<\/a> was convicted of eight felony counts including perjury and voter fraud<\/a> and was sentenced to 90 days in jail. I wonder how many times people who are convicted of eight felony counts are sentenced to only 90 days in jail.<\/p>\n

Senator Roderick Wright of Los Angeles<\/a> was convicted in January of lying about whether he lived in the district he sought to represent, the first in a string of criminal proceedings against three state senators this year that effectively cost Democrats<\/a> their two-thirds majority in the California<\/a> Senate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not what I call a victimless crime<\/a>,\u201d said Judge Kathleen Kennedy<\/a>, who denied Wright\u2019s request for a new trial in Los Angeles Superior Court<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She said Wright was no longer eligible to hold elective office in California.<\/strong><\/p>\n
