{"id":23512,"date":"2014-08-08T16:36:44","date_gmt":"2014-08-08T20:36:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=23512"},"modified":"2014-08-08T16:36:44","modified_gmt":"2014-08-08T20:36:44","slug":"bobby-jindal-on-common-core","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=23512","title":{"rendered":"Bobby Jindal On Common Core"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, the <a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2014\/08\/06\/jindal-admin-common-core-is-illegal-federal-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Caller<\/a> posted an article about <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"List of Governors of Louisiana\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_Governors_of_Louisiana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Louisiana Governor<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Bobby Jindal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.louisiana.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Bobby Jindal<\/a>&#8216;s battle against <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Common Core\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Common_Core\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Common Core<\/a>. Governor Jindal is fighting Common Core on the grounds that it is a violation of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Federal law\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Federal_law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">federal law<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>In <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.state.la.us\/assets\/docs\/SUPPLEMENTAL%20AND%20AMENDED%20THIRD%20PARTY%20DEMAND%20FINAL%208-6-14.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a brief submitted Wednesday<\/a> as part of a lawsuit against <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Louisiana\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=31.0,-92.0&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=31.0,-92.0 (Louisiana)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Louisiana<\/a>\u2019s Board for Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), Jindal\u2019s attorneys claim that a consortium used to create multistate standardized tests aligned with Common Core was transformed into a cudgel to force states to obey federal edicts on education.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is nothing in the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Constitution\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Constitution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">U.S. Constitution<\/a> that gives the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Federal government of the United States\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Federal_government_of_the_United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">federal government<\/a> control over education&#8211;that was left to the state and local governments.<\/p>\n<p>The article explains:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cSimply put, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"PARCC\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PARCC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">PARCC<\/a> (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) is the implementation platform for a carefully orchestrated\u00a0federal scheme to supervise, direct and control educational curriculum, programs of\u00a0instruction and instructional materials in direct violation of federal law,\u201d the report argues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>PARCC\u2019s creation, as well as the creation of the Smarter Balanced consortium (which serves the same purpose but has different members), was enabled through grants by the federal government through the Race to the Top program. That federal involvement, Jindal\u2019s team argues, irretrievably taints the organization as well as Common Core more broadly, even though the government was not directly involved with the standards\u2019 creation.\u00a0The <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Department of Education Organization Act\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Department_of_Education_Organization_Act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Department of Education Organization Act<\/a> (DOEA) and other federal laws, they say, explicitly bar the Department of Education from taking actions that increase federal control over education.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cRace to [the] Top\u2026effectively coopted Common Core for the\u00a0federal government, attempting to accomplish indirectly through economic coercion that\u00a0which the federal government is prohibited from accomplishing directly,\u201d the brief argues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Common Core is unconstitutional and does not make a positive contribution to the education of our children. How long will it take state to figure that out?
