{"id":23228,"date":"2014-07-05T11:10:20","date_gmt":"2014-07-05T15:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=23228"},"modified":"2014-07-05T11:10:20","modified_gmt":"2014-07-05T15:10:20","slug":"texas-isnt-turning-blue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=23228","title":{"rendered":"Texas Isn&#8217;t Turning Blue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/Breitbart-Texas\/2014\/07\/05\/Hispanic-Growth-Not-Turning-Texas-Blue-as-Expected\" target=\"_blank\">Breitbart.com<\/a> posted an article today about the Democrats plan to turn <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Texas\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=31.0,-100.0&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=31.0,-100.0 (Texas)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Texas<\/a> blue by bringing in a large number of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Race and ethnicity in the United States Census\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Race_and_ethnicity_in_the_United_States_Census\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Hispanic<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Voting\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Voting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">voters<\/a>. It doesn&#8217;t seem to be going the way they planned.<\/p>\n<p>The article points out:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cThe popular thinking is that the change in the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">American<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Population\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Population\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">population<\/a> portends bad news for a Republican Party that&#8217;s still heavily dependent on support from those older, whiter voters,\u201d Bump states. \u201cOur thinking: What better place to track how that evolution might occur than Texas.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The report compares the 2000 and <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States presidential election, 2012\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_presidential_election%2C_2012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">2012 presidential election results<\/a> and compares them to Hispanic population density in Texas. It concludes that while there was a close link between the density of a county\u2019s Hispanic population and its support for Democrat candidates, the voting pattern for that county did not change as the county became less white and more Hispanic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most voters are aware of their immediate surroundings. Texas has experienced fantastic economic growth under <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Rick Perry\" href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.state.tx.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Governor Rick Perry<\/a>. Hispanics living in Texas have shared in that growth. The Hispanic population has not embraced Democrat principles&#8211;they are acting as intelligent voters.<\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The Post (Washington Post) article states \u201cOn average, support for the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Party (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.democrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democratic candidate<\/a> dropped 10 percent by county between Gore and Kerry. It increased 5 percent between Bush and <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Barack Obama\" href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Obama<\/a>, and then dropped another 13 percent between 2008 and 2012. Between 2000 and 2012, cities and the border areas voted consistently more Democratic. But the central, emptier part of the state got a lot more red.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The vague trends led the Post to conclude, \u201cAll we can do is look at how the state evolves over time. Over the past 10 years, the population shift was subtle and the voting change barely noticeable. In 2000, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Al Gore\" href=\"http:\/\/algore.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Al Gore<\/a> won 24 of the state&#8217;s counties. In 2012, Obama did better. He won 25.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Obama-encouraged wave of Hispanic immigrants may not create a Democrat party majority for the foreseeable future.
