{"id":22777,"date":"2014-05-14T20:35:33","date_gmt":"2014-05-15T00:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=22777"},"modified":"2014-05-14T20:35:34","modified_gmt":"2014-05-15T00:35:34","slug":"the-presidents-get-out-of-jail-free-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=22777","title":{"rendered":"The President&#8217;s &#8220;Get Out Of Jail Free&#8221; Card"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2014\/may\/12\/feds-released-hundreds-immigrant-murderers-drunken\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Washington Times<\/a> reported that in 2013 immigration officers released 36,000 <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Immigration\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wikinvest.com\/concept\/Immigration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikinvest\">immigrants<\/a> from custody.<\/p>\n<p>The article describes these immigrants:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Among the 36,000 immigrants whom <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ice.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a> released from custody last year there were 116 with <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Conviction\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Conviction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">convictions<\/a> for homicide, 43 for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Negligent homicide\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Negligent_homicide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">negligent manslaughter<\/a>, 14 for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Voluntary manslaughter\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Voluntary_manslaughter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">voluntary manslaughter<\/a> and one with a conviction classified by ICE as \u201chomicide-willful kill-<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Official\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Official\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">public official<\/a>-gun.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The immigrants were in deportation proceedings, meaning ICE was trying to remove them from the country and could have held them in detention but released them anyway, according to the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Center for Immigration Studies\" href=\"http:\/\/cis.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Center for Immigration Studies<\/a>, which published the numbers Monday. The Washington Times also obtained the data.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;The 36,007 criminal aliens counted in the data had more than 87,000 convictions among them: 15,635 for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"DUI\" href=\"http:\/\/www.legalmatch.com\/DUI-DWI-lawyers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"lawlibrary\">drunken driving<\/a>, 9,187 for what ICE labeled \u201cdangerous drugs,\u201d 2,691 for assault, 1,724 for weapons offenses and 303 for \u201cflight escape\u201d \u2014 a category that would seem to make them bad candidates for release.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I will admit that I am having trouble figuring out the rationale behind releasing them rather than deporting them. Releasing these prisoners puts the safety of American citizens at risk.
