A website called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fdfny.org\/blog\/2011\/09\/18\/these-uppity-negroes-lbj\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Bunker<\/a> quotes off the record remarks he made at the time:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201dThese <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Negro\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Negro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Negroes<\/a>, they\u2018re getting pretty uppity these days and that\u2018s a problem for us since they\u2018ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we\u2018ve got to do something about this, we\u2018ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference.\u201d ~Lyndon B. Johnson (<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Party (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.democrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democrat<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Lyndon B. Johnson\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lyndon_B._Johnson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">President Lyndon Baines Johnson<\/a>, And is \u201c<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Great Society\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_Society\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Great Society<\/a>\u201d to help the Negro\u2026 was recorded on a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"White House\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8976694444,-77.03655&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8976694444,-77.03655 (White%20House)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">White House<\/a> taped (and saved) conversation claiming, \u201cI\u2019ll have them niggers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a January 2011 article in the <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/news\/articles\/SB10001424052748704881304576094221050061598?mod=WSJ_newsreel_opinion&amp;mg=reno64-wsj&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB10001424052748704881304576094221050061598.html%3Fmod%3DWSJ_newsreel_opinion\" target=\"_blank\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>, Walter Williams stated:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Even in the antebellum era, when slaves often weren&#8217;t permitted to wed, most black children lived with a biological mother and father. During <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Reconstruction Era\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction_Era\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Reconstruction<\/a> and up until the 1940s, 75% to 85% of black children lived in two-parent families. Today, more than 70% of black children are born to single women. &#8220;The welfare state has done to <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"African American\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/African_American\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">black Americans<\/a> what slavery couldn&#8217;t do, what <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Jim Crow laws\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jim_Crow_laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Jim Crow<\/a> couldn&#8217;t do, what the harshest racism couldn&#8217;t do,&#8221; Mr. Williams says. &#8220;And that is to destroy the black family.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cliven Bundy recently stated (as reported by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2014\/04\/24\/politics\/cliven-bundy-interview\/index.html?iref=allsearch\" target=\"_blank\">CNN<\/a>):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8220;I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,&#8221; Bundy said, &#8220;and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids &#8211; and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch &#8211; they didn&#8217;t have nothing to do. They didn&#8217;t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn&#8217;t have nothing for their young girls to do.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8220;And because they were basically on <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Subsidy\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Subsidy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">government subsidy<\/a>, so now what do they do?&#8221; Bundy continued. &#8220;They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I&#8217;ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn&#8217;t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bundy has been accused of racism on the basis of that statement.
