This week Mustang turns 50. She looks pretty good for her age:<\/p>\n

Yes, I know that’s a 2010, but that’s the picture I like!<\/p>\n

Steven Hayward posted an article at Power Line<\/a> about Mustang’s birthday (with a few comments on her history).<\/p>\n

The article included the question, “Which gives off more air pollution<\/a>, a 1969 Mustang parked in a driveway with the motor off or a \u00a02013 Mustang, roaring down the road at 60 mph?”<\/p>\n

The answer is surprising:<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re very clever (or keep up with Matt Ridley<\/a>), you\u2019ll know the answer is that the parked 1969 Mustang gives off more air pollution, in the form of unburned hydrocarbons<\/a> evaporating through the old-school carbuerator and unsealed gas tank<\/a> caps (among other places). \u00a0A good object lesson in the advancement of engine technology. \u00a0And the fact that the real heroes of environmental improvement were engineers with pocket protectors more than hippie environmentalists.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Amazing.<\/p>\n
