Yesterday the Washington Times<\/a> posted an article about the farm bill<\/a> that is making its way through Congress<\/a>. Included in the bill is a fee (a fee as opposed to a tax?) of two-tenths of a cent on every gallon of\u00a0home heating oil<\/a> sold. Last week the farm bill passed the House of Representatives<\/a> with a\u00a0 bipartisan 251-166 vote.<\/p>\n

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune<\/a> is reporting today that the Senate voted to close debate on a five-year farm bill late Monday afternoon paving way for its passage Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The article at the Washington Times reported:<\/p>\n

Lawmakers in the House<\/a> and Senate<\/a> sponsored bills to try to renew the National Oilheat Research Alliance<\/a>, but the legislation got bottled up in committee. The farm bill offered them a chance to short-circuit the usual legislative process<\/a> and avoid the kind of scrutiny that accompanies a stand-alone bill.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Indeed, it was not raised at all during the debate on the House<\/a> floor last week.<\/strong><\/p>\n
