Well, if that is true, why don&#8217;t we just cut government waste and fraud?<\/p>\n<p>Today <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/stories\/2013\/11\/09\/billion-dollar-blunder-irs-issued-billions-to-identity-thieves\/\">The Blaze<\/a> posted a story about some recent <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Tax refund\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tax_refund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">tax refunds<\/a> mailed out by the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Internal Revenue Service\" href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Internal Revenue Service (IRS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The Internal Revenue Service issued $4 billion\u00a0in fraudulent tax refunds last year to people using stolen identities, with some of the money going to addresses in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Bulgaria\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=42.75,25.5&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=42.75,25.5 (Bulgaria)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Bulgaria<\/a>, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Lithuania\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=54.6833333333,25.3166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=54.6833333333,25.3166666667 (Lithuania)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Lithuania<\/a> and <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Ireland\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=53.3333333333,-8.0&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=53.3333333333,-8.0 (Ireland)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Ireland<\/a>, according to an inspector general\u2019s report released Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-key=\"tisis\" data-num=\"3\"><strong>The IRS sent a total of 655 tax refunds to a single address in Lithuania, and 343 refunds went to a lone address in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Shanghai\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=31.2,121.5&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=31.2,121.5 (Shanghai)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Shanghai<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-key=\"aptoa\" data-num=\"4\"><strong>Again, 343 payments to <em>one<\/em> address.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-key=\"aptoa\" data-num=\"4\">There are certain red flags that result in American taxpayers being audited&#8211;a change in giving habits, a drastic change in income, and various other things will set off a flag and result in an audit. Doesn&#8217;t the IRS software have the capacity to set off a flag if 343 people have the same address? I realize a large apartment building could easily house 343 people, but wouldn&#8217;t they have individual addresses? Shouldn&#8217;t that many people at the same address raise a question with someone?<\/p>\n<p data-key=\"aptoa\" data-num=\"4\"><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Florida\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=28.1,-81.6&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=28.1,-81.6 (Florida)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Florida<\/a> is a prime target for identity theft for the purpose of\u00a0 tax fraud. The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-key=\"aptoa\" data-num=\"4\"><strong>Among individual homes, one address in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Orlando, Florida\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=28.4158333333,-81.2988888889&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=28.4158333333,-81.2988888889 (Orlando%2C%20Florida)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Orlando<\/a> received 580 tax refunds totaling $870,000 last year, the report said. Another Orlando address received 291 refunds totaling $466,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-key=\"aptoa\" data-num=\"4\">The article reports that the IRS has developed a computer program to deal with the problem of identity theft and false tax returns. Let&#8217;s hope it is more secure than the ObamaCare website.
