Mohamed Elibiary is a member<\/a> of DHS\u2019s Homeland Security Advisory Council<\/a> (HSAC<\/a>). On Friday, the Washington Free Beacon<\/a> reported that when asked to name an Islamic country<\/a> where non Muslims<\/a> are treated with equality, Mr. Elibiary tweeted, \u201cAmerica and yes I do consider the United States of America<\/a> an Islamic country with an Islamically compliant constitution. Move On!\u201d<\/p>\n

Wow. The U.S. Constitution<\/a> is not Islamically compliant. Women in America<\/a> have an equal voice in legal matters. Women in America are not subject to female genital mutilation. Women in America are not put in prison if they are raped. America does not recognize honor killings. That’s just the beginning.<\/p>\n

Elibiary has expressed great support for the Muslim Brotherhood<\/a>, claiming in a recent interview<\/a> with Clarion that the organization is \u201cpragmatic\u201d and \u201cnon-violent.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Supporters of Egypt<\/a>\u2019s Muslim Brotherhood have been cited for a range of violent crimes before and after the fall of Morsi, including the desecration of churches and other abuses.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that MB and its political arm, the Freedom and Justice Party<\/a>, has by and large acted responsibly, if not always effectively, during the democratic transition period that Egypt is in the very early stages of,\u201d Elbiary told Clarion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Elibiary has served<\/a> on the DHS\u2019 \u201cCountering Violent Extremist Working Group,\u201d as well as its \u201cFaith-based Security and Communications Advisory Committee.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Elibiary\u2019s critics say that someone with his views should not be advising DHS, the country\u2019s chief<\/a> counter-terror agency responsible for advising local governments across the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t just a foreign policy issue,\u201d said Ryan Mauro, a national security analyst for the Clarion Project. \u201cElibiary\u2019s beliefs are reflected in DHS training guidelines<\/a> that leave counter-terrorism personnel unaware that the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood even exists.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Neither Elibiary nor a DHS spokesperson responded to a Washington Free Beacon<\/i> request for comment.<\/strong><\/p>\n
