{"id":2025,"date":"2010-07-05T15:11:51","date_gmt":"2010-07-05T15:11:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=2025"},"modified":"2010-07-05T15:11:51","modified_gmt":"2010-07-05T15:11:51","slug":"if_you_really_want_to_cut_the","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=2025","title":{"rendered":"If You Really Want To Cut The Federal Budget&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lurita Doan at <a href=\"http:\/\/townhall.com\/columnists\/LuritaDoan\/2010\/07\/05\/five_budget_cuts_congress_hasnt_considered\/page\/full\">Townhall.com<\/a>&nbsp;posted her five suggestions for cutting the deficit.&nbsp; These are five suggestions that would have very little impact on the average American.<\/p>\n<p>1.&nbsp; <strong>Cap the number of White House staffers and Czars<\/strong>.&nbsp; Michelle Obama alone has amassed a staff that will cost the American taxpayers <strong><em><font color=\"#ff0000\">$6,364,000 <\/font><\/em><\/strong>over four years.&nbsp; (That number is from the Canadian Free Press).&nbsp; There are 42 Czars in the Obama Administration, each with staffing and office space requirements. According the Ms. Doan, &#8220;getting a grip on the czar&#8217;s expenditures would equal or even exceed the <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748704080104575286730082924908.html\"><u><font color=\"#1a4d80\">$100billion-over-5-years budget cuts<\/font><\/u><\/a> proposed by Defense Secretary Gates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2<\/strong>.&nbsp; <strong>Eliminate Agency and Congressional Slush Funds<\/strong>.&nbsp; According to Ms. Doan, &#8220;these slush funds range from a few million to several hundred million and are not transparent to the American taxpayer, nor are most members of Congress aware of their existence or size.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><strong>3.&nbsp; Cut certain bonuses for federal workers<\/strong>.&nbsp; Annual retention bonuses and signing incentive bonuses can go as high as $50,000 per individual.&nbsp; Ms. Doan explains, &#8220;many federal workers receive retention bonuses each month for decades while employed by the federal government.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.&nbsp; Eliminate phantom federal employees and their contigent slush funds<\/strong>.&nbsp; Every year&nbsp;all Executive agencies place a line item in their budget for payroll and benefits as if they were fully staffed.&nbsp; They are not fully staffed due to normal attrition and hiring practices, but they receive this money anyway.&nbsp; According to Ms. Doan, &#8220;this funding provides a convenient slush fund within federal agencies that can then be re-allocated mid-year to other agency priorities not approved by Congress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.&nbsp; Reduce the number of committees and subcommittes in Congress<\/strong>.&nbsp; There are currently 23 House committees with 104 House subcommittees and17 Senate standing committees with 70 subcommittees.&nbsp; There are also approximately 69 Joint (Senate\/House) committees as well as several Conference committees.&nbsp; Ms. Doan points out, &#8220;with fewer congressional committees and less staff, there might be less time and resources devoted to witch-hunts and show trials, and more effort spent on the business of government.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>None of these moves would even remotely impact the average American (other than to begin to reduce the deficit and grow the economy).&nbsp; What are the chances of this administration even considering one of these ideas?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lurita Doan at Townhall.com&nbsp;posted her five suggestions for cutting the deficit.&nbsp; These are five suggestions that would have very little impact on the average American. 1.&nbsp; Cap the number of White House staffers and Czars.&nbsp; Michelle Obama alone has amassed &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=2025\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2025","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2025","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=2025"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2025\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=2025"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=2025"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=2025"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
