There is an article in Breitbart.com<\/a> this morning that Hawaii is ending universay child health care.  Sounds cold and inhuman doesn’t it?  Let’s look at the reasons behind the decision.  Why in world would anyone pay for something they can have for free?  That is the question.  The people who were paying for health care for their children simply stopped paying and enrolled in the free health care program.  The program went way over budget and had to be cut.  There is an interesting bit of information at the end of the article:<\/p>\n

“Families with children currently enrolled in the universal system are being encouraged to seek more comprehensive Medicaid coverage, which may be available to children in a family of four earning up to $73,000 annually.<\/p>\n

These children also could sign up for the HMSA Children’s Plan, which costs about $55 a month.<\/p>\n

‘Most of them won’t be eligible for Medicaid, and that’s why they were enrolled in Keiki Care,’ Diesman said. ‘It’s the gap group that we’re trying to ensure has coverage.'”<\/p>\n

To me that says that the state will no longer pick up the tab for many of Hawaii’s children–the federagl government will.  Great.  A family of four earning up to $73,000 annually may be eligible for Medicaid. <\/strong> I know the cost of living in Hawaii is very high, but that seems excessive to me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
