{"id":2000,"date":"2010-06-25T12:46:44","date_gmt":"2010-06-25T12:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=2000"},"modified":"2010-06-25T12:46:44","modified_gmt":"2010-06-25T12:46:44","slug":"the_crowding_out_of_the_privat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=2000","title":{"rendered":"The Crowding Out Of The Private Sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following paragraphs are from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/empsit.nr0.htm\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a>&nbsp;website&#8211;the numbers are from their press release of early June detailing employment information for May.&nbsp; The boldface type was my addition.<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Temporary help services added 31,000 jobs over the month; employment<br \/>in the industry has risen by 362,000 since September 2009.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Employment in mining continued to increase in May, with a gain of<br \/>10,000. Support activities for mining accounted for 8,000 of the over-<br \/>the-month increase. Since October 2009, mining employment has expanded<br \/>by 50,000.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Health care employment was little changed in May (+8,000). Over the<br \/>prior 12 months, health care employment had increased by an average <br \/>of 20,000 per month.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In May, employment in construction declined by 35,000, largely off-<br \/>setting gains in the industry in the prior 2 months. May&#8217;s job loss<br \/>was spread throughout the sector.<\/p>\n<p><\/em><em><strong>&#8220;Employment in other private-sector industries, including wholesale<br \/>trade, retail trade, transportation and warehousing, information,<br \/>financial activities, and leisure and hospitality showed little or <br \/>no change in May.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Government employment rose by 390,000 in May. The Federal government<br \/>hired 411,000 temporary workers for Census 2010, bringing total tem-<br \/>porary census staffing during the payroll survey reference period to <br \/>564,000. Employment in state government excluding education decreased <br \/>by 13,000.<\/p>\n<p><\/strong>&#8220;In May, the average workweek for all employees on private nonfarm pay-<br \/>rolls increased by 0.1 hour to 34.2 hours. The manufacturing workweek <br \/>for all employees increased by 0.3 hour to 40.5 hours. The average <br \/>workweek for production and nonsupervisory employees on private non-<br \/>farm payrolls increased by 0.1 hour to 33.5 hours over the month.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Average hourly earnings of all employees in the private nonfarm sector<br \/>increased by 7 cents, or 0.3 percent, to $22.57 in May. Over the past<br \/>12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 1.9 percent.
