{"id":19690,"date":"2013-07-14T20:02:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-15T00:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=19690"},"modified":"2013-07-14T20:02:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-15T00:02:00","slug":"some-additional-information-on-the-george-zimmerman-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=19690","title":{"rendered":"Some Additional Information On The George Zimmerman Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/07\/13\/justice\/zimmerman-it-firing\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> reported the story of Ben Kruidbos, director of information technology for the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Florida\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=28.1,-81.6&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=28.1,-81.6 (Florida)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Florida<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"State's attorney\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/State%27s_attorney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">State Attorney<\/a>&#8216;s Office. Mr. Knuidbos has been on paid administrative leave since May 28. How is this relevant to George Zimmerman?<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Kruidbos testified before <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Mountain House, Alameda County, California\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=37.7541666667,-121.575555556&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=37.7541666667,-121.575555556 (Mountain%20House%2C%20Alameda%20County%2C%20California)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Zimmerman&#8217;s<\/a> trial began that Martin&#8217;s cell phone contained images of Martin blowing smoke, images of marijuana and deleted text messages regarding a transaction for a firearm and that those images had not been given to Zimmerman&#8217;s defense team.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>He received the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Termination of employment\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Termination_of_employment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">termination letter<\/a>, dated July 11, on <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Friday\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/friday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"rottentomatoes\">Friday<\/a>, the same day <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Jury\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jury\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">jurors<\/a> began deliberating Zimmerman&#8217;s case. The letter states: &#8220;It has come to our attention that you violated numerous State Attorney&#8217;s Office (SAO) policies and procedures and have engaged in deliberate misconduct that is especially egregious in light of your position.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He was fired for refusing to be part of a cover-up.<\/p>\n<p>The article further reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>O&#8217;Mara (defense lawyer <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Mark O'Mara\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mark_O%27Mara\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Mark O&#8217;Mara<\/a>) said he learned about the missing information months after he was to have received it. &#8220;The only way that we really found out about it &#8230; and the only way that we really found out about the intensity of the failure to give us information was when a person from their own office, a whistle-blower, came forward and said, &#8216;I gave them that information in the middle to end of January&#8217; and we didn&#8217;t get it until June 4th.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>He said he was &#8220;beyond&#8221; shocked. &#8220;It could have derailed the trial,&#8221; he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is one example of the reason we need protection for whistleblowers.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2013\/jul\/13\/shapiro-zimmerman-jurys-verdict-shines-troubling-l\/\">Washington Times<\/a> posted an article about the case, explaining why they felt that it should not have been prosecuted at all:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The\u00a0jury in the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Shooting of Trayvon Martin\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=28.79295,-81.32965&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=28.79295,-81.32965 (Shooting%20of%20Trayvon%20Martin)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Trayvon Martin case<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday\u00a0night acquitted George\u00a0Zimmerman, but it should never have gotten that far. The Florida State Attorney\u2019s Office should have dismissed their case before submitting it to the jury. That\u2019s what the law required.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The prosecution failed to prove the defendant\u2019s guilt by any standard of evidence. And based on the standard of probable cause, dismissing the case would have been the right thing to do.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The events surrounding this case are unfortunate&#8211;one young man lost his life and another young man has essentially had his life ruined. There are no winners here, and flaming the fires of racial hatred does no one good. George Zimmerman has been tried and found not guilty. In a healthy society, it would end there.
