{"id":1917,"date":"2010-05-28T13:25:28","date_gmt":"2010-05-28T13:25:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1917"},"modified":"2010-05-28T13:25:28","modified_gmt":"2010-05-28T13:25:28","slug":"a_bad_decision_reversed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1917","title":{"rendered":"A Bad Decision Reversed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/05\/27\/health\/27brfs-DOCTORSREVER_BRF.html?ref=us\">The New York Times<\/a>&nbsp;ran a short&nbsp;article in their health section about the reversal&nbsp;by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) of their decision on female circumcision in the United States.&nbsp; They had supported a ceremonial watered-down version of the procedure be allowed in this country in order to keep families from sending their daughters overseas to have the procedure.<\/p>\n<p>According to the article:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><em>&#8220;The (original)&nbsp;policy statement ignited a storm of criticism from opponents of female genital cutting. Dr. Judith S. Palfrey, president of the academy, said: &#8220;We&#8217;re saying don&#8217;t do it.
