{"id":18368,"date":"2013-04-12T09:11:04","date_gmt":"2013-04-12T13:11:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=18368"},"modified":"2013-04-12T09:11:15","modified_gmt":"2013-04-12T13:11:15","slug":"when-did-watergate-become-legal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=18368","title":{"rendered":"When Did Watergate Become Legal?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have all been hearing about the bugging of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Party leaders of the United States Senate\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Party_leaders_of_the_United_States_Senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Senate Minority Leader<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Mitch McConnell\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcconnell.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Mitch McConnell<\/a>&#8216;s meeting with his <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Political campaign staff\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Political_campaign_staff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">campaign staff<\/a> on February 2. Evidently it is now okay to secretly tape someone&#8217;s campaign meetings and not face consequences. I am not going to bother with the details of the story since it has been in the headlines and you can pretty much read the details anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>However, I do want to quote the last line from an article posted at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2013\/04\/speaking-of-bitter-sweet.php\">Power Line<\/a> today:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"James Taranto\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Taranto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">James Taranto<\/a> has been following the affair <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jamestaranto\">on Twitter<\/a> and derives an edifying judgment of public policy: \u201cSo post-<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Watergate scandal\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Watergate_scandal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Watergate<\/a> \u2018reforms\u2019 led to the creation of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Political action committee\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Political_action_committee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">super PACs<\/a>, which are now committing Watergate-like crimes. Brilliant.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Further proof that generally speaking, when Congress attempts to fix a problem by creating more laws, they only make things worse.
