Anyone over the age of 55 remembers her smiling face on the original <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"The Mickey Mouse Club\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Mickey_Mouse_Club\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Mickey Mouse Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Annette represented a different time in our popular culture. Her wholesome image was very different from that of the stars to come out of the Disney studios in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>The article at Fox reminds us of that fact:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The beach films featured ample youthful skin. But not Funicello&#8217;s.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>She remembered in 1987: &#8220;Mr. Disney said to me one day, &#8216;Annette, I have a favor to ask of you. I know all the girls are wearing bikinis, but you have an image to uphold. I would appreciate it if you would wear a one-piece suit.&#8217; I did, and I never regretted it.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Modesty was a good thing.
