It seems that he had a close friendship with a major <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Party (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.democrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democratic<\/a> donor named Dr. Salomon Melgen. The two of them frequently flew on <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Doctor (Doctor Who)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Doctor_%28Doctor_Who%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">the Doctor&#8217;s<\/a> private jet to the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Dominican Republic\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=19.0,-70.6666666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=19.0,-70.6666666667 (Dominican%20Republic)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Dominican Republic<\/a> where the Senator spent time with underage prostitutes.<\/p>\n<p>The story can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/Big-Government\/2013\/02\/03\/The-Mystery-Flight-of-Bob-Menendez\">Breitbart.com<\/a> and in the <a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2013\/02\/03\/just-who-is-dr-salomon-melgen-the-florida-surgeon-at-center-of-sen-menendezs-alleged-sex-trips\/\">Daily Caller<\/a>. Recently the Doctor&#8217;s offices were raided by the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Federal Bureau of Investigation\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.894465,-77.024503&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.894465,-77.024503 (Federal%20Bureau%20of%20Investigation)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">FBI<\/a> and records removed from the office. So what is this all about? News reports state Menendez has denied published reports he improperly lobbied on behalf of Melgen&#8217;s interest in a Dominican Republic <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Port security\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Port_security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Port security<\/a> contractor.<\/p>\n<p>To be very honest, this scandal is going nowhere. (I would love to be wrong about this.) The Senator did something gross outside of the country, and I don&#8217;t even know if what he did is illegal in the Dominican Republic. There is an ethics violation if he accepted free flights, but that will be corrected by paying for the flights. Essentially, I believe that this is much ado about something that will actually have no impact on anything.
