President Obama has requested $60.4 billion in relief for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The pork-barrel feast includes more than $8 million to buy cars and equipment for the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Homeland security\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Homeland_security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Homeland Security<\/a> and Justice departments. It also includes a whopping $150 million for the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration\" href=\"http:\/\/www.noaa.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration<\/a> to dole out to fisheries in Alaska and $2 million for the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Smithsonian Institution\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8888,-77.026&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8888,-77.026 (Smithsonian%20Institution)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Smithsonian Institution<\/a> to repair museum roofs in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Augustin Pyramus de Candolle\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Augustin_Pyramus_de_Candolle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">DC.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>An eye-popping $13 billion would go to \u201cmitigation\u201d projects to prepare for future storms.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Other big-ticket items in the bill include $207 million for the VA Manhattan Medical Center; $41 million to fix up eight military bases along the storm\u2019s path, including <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Guant\u00e1namo Bay\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=19.9,-75.15&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=19.9,-75.15 (Guant%C3%A1namo%20Bay)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Guantanamo Bay, Cuba<\/a>; $4 million for repairs at <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Kennedy Space Center\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=28.5240577778,-80.6508486111&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=28.5240577778,-80.6508486111 (Kennedy%20Space%20Center)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Kennedy Space Center<\/a> in Florida; $3.3 million for the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Plum Island Animal Disease Center\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=41.1788888889,-72.2055555556&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=41.1788888889,-72.2055555556 (Plum%20Island%20Animal%20Disease%20Center)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Plum Island Animal Disease Center<\/a> and $1.1 million to repair national cemeteries.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We truly need to take away the credit card away from Congress. The problem is that the money that the victims of Hurricane Sandy need will be held up if the bill is carefully scrutinized, but the taxpayers will be fleeced if the bill is not examined carefully and the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Pork barrel\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pork_barrel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">pork spending<\/a> removed.
