{"id":16610,"date":"2012-12-04T10:26:13","date_gmt":"2012-12-04T15:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=16610"},"modified":"2012-12-04T10:26:14","modified_gmt":"2012-12-04T15:26:14","slug":"the-schizophrenic-american-voter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=16610","title":{"rendered":"The Schizophrenic American Voter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Mary Katharine Ham\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mary_Katharine_Ham\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Katharine Ham<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2012\/12\/03\/polls-nation-that-re-elected-obama-wants-more-spending-cuts-than-tax-hikes-still-hates-obamacare\/\">Hot Air<\/a> posted an article detailing some of the opinions of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" rel=\"geolocation\" target=\"_blank\">American<\/a> voters and contrasting those opinions with the way they voted.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>A survey of 800 Obama voters, conducted last month by Benenson Strategy Group for the moderate <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Party (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.democrats.org\/\" rel=\"homepage\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic<\/a> think tank <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Third Way (centrism)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Third_Way_%28centrism%29\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Third Way<\/a> and shared first with <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Politico\" href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\" rel=\"homepage\" target=\"_blank\">POLITICO<\/a>, finds that 96 percent believe the federal deficit is a problem and that 85 percent support increasing taxes on the wealthy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Yet 41 percent who supported the Democratic incumbent want to get control of the deficit mostly by cutting spending, with only some tax increases, while another 41 percent want to solve it mostly with tax increases and only some spending cuts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Just 5 percent of Obama supporters favor tax increases alone to solve the deficit, half the number who back an approach that relies entirely on spending cuts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Their opinions put them much more in line with <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Willard Mitt Romney\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biography.com\/people\/mitt-romney-241055\" rel=\"biographycom\" target=\"_blank\">Mitt Romney<\/a> than <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biography.com\/people\/barack-obama-12782369\" rel=\"biographycom\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>The article continues:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Meanwhile, according to polling by <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"CNN\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/\" rel=\"homepage\" target=\"_blank\">CNN<\/a>, registered voters oppose Obamacare by a margin of 10 points \u2014 52 to 42 percent. Independents like Obamacare even less, opposing it by a margin of 22 points \u2014 57 to 35 percent. Clearly, voters didn\u2019t think they were ratifying Obamacare when they pulled the lever for Obama.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;One thing that has not changed is that Americans still widely prefer a system based on private insurance to one run by the government. Currently, 57% prefer a private system and 36% a government-run system, essentially the same as in 2010 and 2011. Prior to the passage of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Patient_Protection_and_Affordable_Care_Act\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Affordable Care Act<\/a> in 2010, the percentage of Americans in favor of a government-run system ranged from 32% to 41%.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Obviously, I have no explanation for this.
