Today’s U.K. Express<\/a> posted a wonderful story about a 60-year old man who plays a Cavalier<\/a> swordsman in re-enactments<\/a> of Civil War battles (British Civil War<\/a>–not American Civil War).<\/p>\n

Mr Thompson had gone to get a paper at the local mini-mart when he heard a disturbance and saw someone at the cash register holding a knife to the clerk’s neck and demanding the money. Mr. Thompson got involved. He used the techniques he has learned as a re-enactor to disarm the man and hold him captive until the police came.<\/p>\n

Mr Thompson, 60, said his Cavalier sword play skills, learned<\/a> as a member of the Sealed Knot Society which re-enacts battles, gave him the strength to tackle the robber.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0He said: \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for the re-enactment group I couldn\u2019t have done it. It is never real when we learn how to deal with knives and swords but the movements are for real.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0Mr Thompson, a retired lecturer from Prestatyn<\/a>, north Wales<\/a>, is a veteran member of the 100-strong group who re-enact Civil War battles in authentic costumes.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0He holds the rank of second in command of The Earl of Northampton<\/a>\u2019s Regiment of Foote.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0Mr. Thompson was given a bravery award by the police for his actions.<\/p>\n
