{"id":1492,"date":"2010-01-04T06:57:24","date_gmt":"2010-01-04T06:57:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1492"},"modified":"2010-01-04T06:57:24","modified_gmt":"2010-01-04T06:57:24","slug":"urban_blight_for_profit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1492","title":{"rendered":"Urban Blight For Profit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/01\/01\/AR2010010101367.html?nav=rss_opinion\/columns\">Washington Post<\/a>, George Will posted a story about Prospect Heights, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York,&nbsp;where the owners of the New York Nets would like buy 22 acres of land to build a huge complex of high-rise residences, commercial properties and a basketball arena for the NBA&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nba.com\/nets\/index_main.html\" target=\"\"><font color=\"#0c4790\">New Jersey Nets<\/font><\/a>.&nbsp; The problem is that people already live in that 22 acres.&nbsp; In order for the government to seize the land for development, it would have to be &#8216;blighted.&#8217;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>According to the article:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p sizset=\"170\" sizcache=\"0\"><em>&#8220;The Atlantic Yards site, where 10 subway lines and one railway line converge, is the center of the bustling Prospect Heights neighborhood of mostly small businesses and middle-class residences.
