Paul Mirengoff at Power Line<\/a> posted an interesting article yesterday about the omission of a moment of silence<\/a> at the Olympics<\/a> for the Israeli<\/a> athletes murdered 40 years ago.<\/p>\n

The article points out:<\/p>\n

There was, however, a moment of silence<\/a> for the victims of the two world wars and other international conflicts. Thus, IOC President<\/a> Jacques Rogge was lying when he claimed that the decision not to honor the victims of the Munich<\/a> attacks was based on the view that \u201cthe opening ceremony is an atmosphere that is not fit to remember such a tragic incident.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is not a small thing. Two of the widows met with Rogge and asked that their husbands and the nine other athletes murdered be remembered at the Olympics.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mirengoff reports:<\/p>\n

…According to their account, when asked whether his decision was \u201cbecause [the murder victims] were Israelis,\u201d Rogge didn\u2019t answer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the widows says she told Rogge that \u201cyou didn\u2019t hear the voice of the world.\u201d The Frenchman responded, \u201cYes I did.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Mr. Mirengoff states:<\/p>\n

He\u2019s right, I fear \u2014 the \u201cvoice of the world\u201d probably was, as ever, against Israel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This hurts my heart.<\/p>\n

The article at Power Line reminds us of some basic realities of the world we live in:<\/p>\n

The IOC<\/a>\u2019s values are not the values of America, at least not yet. But they are the values of the many other international organizations that seek, with the help of American<\/a> leftists, to take more and more control of our lives and our fate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unless we want one day to be in the position of those hapless Israeli widows, begging for favor before a French bureaucrat (or worse), we must cede nothing more to these bodies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He’s right.<\/p>\n
