Amanda Clayton was discovered in March to have been collecting welfare checks despite having won\u00a0$735,000 as a lottery prize.<\/p>\n<p>This is the video of her defending her actions:<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xTjEwuuBRBE\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"452\" height=\"291\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Please note the following statement:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cI feel that it\u2019s okay because I mean, I have no income and I have bills to pay \u2026 I have two houses\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This woman was collecting <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Supplemental_Nutrition_Assistance_Program\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">food stamps<\/a> after <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Lottery\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lottery\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">winning the lottery<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Attorney Todd Flood says Clayton has repaid the approximately $5,500 in food aid and medical benefits she received. The 24-year-old pleaded no contest to fraud last month and was sentenced on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Michigan Department of Human Services\" href=\"http:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/dhs\/\" rel=\"homepage\" target=\"_blank\">Michigan Department of Human Services<\/a> says Clayton didn\u2019t inform the state about her pre-tax lottery windfall of $735,000 last year. Flood says Clayton did make an attempt but decided not to fight the case and move on with her life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Gov. Rick Snyder signed a law in April that requires lottery officials to tell the Department of Human Services about new winners.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>So where does Clayton go from here? Her attorney says that because she\u2019s a felon, it\u2019s going to be hard.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Michigan\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=44.34,-85.58&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=44.34,-85.58%20%28Michigan%29&amp;t=h\" rel=\"geolocation\" target=\"_blank\">Michigan<\/a> in 2012. It\u2019s difficult to find a job. A <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Felony\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Felony\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">felony<\/a> conviction is a very serious matter,\u201d Clayton\u2019s attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/nation\/story\/2012-07-24\/lottery-winner-food-stamps\/56457676\/1\" target=\"_blank\">told USA Today<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t have a poverty problem&#8211;we have an attitude problem! Since finding a job is going to be difficult after a felony conviction, has she considered renting out one of her two houses in order to provide a stream of income.
