{"id":14330,"date":"2012-06-17T19:37:43","date_gmt":"2012-06-17T23:37:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=14330"},"modified":"2012-06-17T19:37:43","modified_gmt":"2012-06-17T23:37:43","slug":"british-special-forces-in-iraq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=14330","title":{"rendered":"British Special Forces In Iraq"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2160337\/Top-secret-report-reveals-Al-Qaeda-executioners-captured-ingenious-SAS--using-Bisto-granules.html\">U.K. Mail Online<\/a>\u00a0posted a story yesterday about the work of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Special Air Service\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Special_Air_Service\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">British Special Air Service<\/a> (the equivalent of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Special Forces (United States Army)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Special_Forces_%28United_States_Army%29\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">American Special Forces<\/a>) in bringing down two of the nastiest <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Al-Qaeda\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Al-Qaeda\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Al Qaeda<\/a> leaders in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Iraq\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=33.3333333333,44.4333333333&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=33.3333333333,44.4333333333 (Iraq)&amp;t=h\" rel=\"geolocation\" target=\"_blank\">Iraq<\/a> in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Please follow the link to the article and read the entire story&#8211;it is fascinating. It combines good old fashioned detective work with undercover work and infiltration into the den of the lions.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the story:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Until today the true extent of the Al Qaeda men\u2019s murderous influence has never been revealed and neither has the extraordinary story of how they were eventually stopped.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The Mail on Sunday can disclose that it was not US special forces who finally killed Rami and captured Uthman \u2013 as was reported at the time by The Washington Post \u2013 but the SAS. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>How they did so was typical of the cool efficiency for which\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the regiment is renowned. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Both operations were also smart, subtle and meticulously planned, using hi-tech ingenuity. Perhaps most of all, though, they were less obvious than those of their American counterparts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The missions took place during the SAS \u2018D\u2019 squadron\u2019s six-month tour of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Baghdad\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=33.3333333333,44.4333333333&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=33.3333333333,44.4333333333 (Baghdad)&amp;t=h\" rel=\"geolocation\" target=\"_blank\">Baghdad<\/a> in the second half of 2008, a time when car bombers were wreaking carnage in the capital.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Documents seen by this newspaper \u2013 accounts of the tour by the regiment\u2019s senior officers \u2013 suggest the SAS was helped by a controversial set of \u2018legal freedoms\u2019 permitting the detainment of any individual, even without\u00a0 evidence to justify their captivity. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love the British perspective.
