{"id":1404,"date":"2009-12-01T11:49:50","date_gmt":"2009-12-01T11:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1404"},"modified":"2009-12-01T11:49:50","modified_gmt":"2009-12-01T11:49:50","slug":"what_goes_around_comes_around","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1404","title":{"rendered":"What Goes Around Comes Around"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My main source for this article is a news item found in the November 27, 2009, issue of THE WEEK.&nbsp; I have not linked to the site, because you need to be a subscriber to the magazine to read the articles on the site.&nbsp; The background information for the article comes from a website called the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ij.org\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=944&amp;Itemid=165\">Institute for Justice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In June of 2005, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the City of New London, Connecticut, could, under the rule of eminent domain,&nbsp;seize the homes of several homeowners in order to use the land for a purpose that would generate more tax revenue for the City.&nbsp; One of the homeowners, Susette Kelo, challenged the City&#8217;s right to do that, and the case eventually went before the US Supreme Court.&nbsp; Unfortunately, the Court&nbsp;ruled that the City could&nbsp;take the land of one property&nbsp;owner and give it to another person.&nbsp; This was a horrible ruling, and undermined the whole concept of protecting private property ownership, but it happened.<\/p>\n<p>So&nbsp;let&#8217;s look at where we are now.&nbsp; The taking of the property was used to lure Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company to New&nbsp;London to build a research center.&nbsp; Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company arrived, built its New London research center on the seized property, and this week announced that it was closing&nbsp;the plant.&nbsp; Most of the plants 1,400 employees will be relocated to nearby Groton.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Now the City of New London won&#8217;t even have the tax revenue from the people who once lived in that area of New London.&nbsp; They will simply have a vacant research center.&nbsp; Poetic justice at its best.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My main source for this article is a news item found in the November 27, 2009, issue of THE WEEK.&nbsp; I have not linked to the site, because you need to be a subscriber to the magazine to read the &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1404\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1404","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1404","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1404"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1404\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1404"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1404"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1404"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
