In any event, a moment of silence does not seem like too much to ask. As Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon<\/a> said: \u201cThis rejection told us as Israelis<\/a> that this tragedy is yours alone and not a tragedy within the family of nations.\u201d Just so.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One wonders, though, the extent to which the moment of silence would have been observed by those in attendance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m sorry that the IOC has chosen not to honor the victims with a moment of silence. The events of 1972 totally broke with the spirit of the Olympics. The IOC’s decision not to observe a moment of silence also breaks with the spirit of the Olympics.<\/p>\n
