Huge creatures may have contributed to their own demise because they produced so much <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Flatulence\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flatulence\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">flatulence<\/a>, say scientists .&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it&#8217;s just me, but that really seems like a bit of a stretch.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Professor <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Graeme Ruxton\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Graeme_Ruxton\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Graeme Ruxton<\/a> of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"University of St Andrews\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=56.3412138889,-2.79301111111&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=56.3412138889,-2.79301111111 (University%20of%20St%20Andrews)&amp;t=h\" rel=\"geolocation\" target=\"_blank\">St Andrews University<\/a>, Scotland, said the giant animals spent 150 years emitting the potent global warming gas, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Methane\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Methane\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">methane<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Large plant-eating sauropods would have been the main culprits because of the huge amounts of greenery they consumed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The team calculated the animals would have collectively produced more than 520m tons of methane a year &#8211; more than all today&#8217;s modern sources put together.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article tells us that c<span>ows and other livestock currently only emit about 100m tons of methane a year.
