{"id":1231,"date":"2009-10-03T19:11:28","date_gmt":"2009-10-03T19:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1231"},"modified":"2009-10-03T19:11:28","modified_gmt":"2009-10-03T19:11:28","slug":"the_education_department_in_ne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1231","title":{"rendered":"The Education Department In New York City Has Too Much Time On Its Hands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/10\/03\/nyregion\/03bakesale.html?_r=1\">New York Times<\/a>, the Education Department of New York City issued a three-page memo in June which banned most bake sales as fund raising tools.&nbsp; Parent groups and Parent-Teacher Groups will be allowed to sell baked items once a month as long as it is after lunch.&nbsp; They are&nbsp;also allowed to sell sweets after 6 pm on weekdays.<\/p>\n<p>According to the article:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p><em>&#8220;The new policy also requires that vending machines, which generate millions of dollars for school sports, be supplied with snacks such as reduced-fat Baked Doritos and low-sugar granola bars. A new vending machine contract is expected to be approved on Wednesday by the <\/em><a title=\"More articles about the Panel for Educational Policy.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/organizations\/e\/education_department_nyc\/panel_for_educational_policy\/index.html?inline=nyt-org\"><em>Panel for Educational Policy<\/em><\/a><em>, the school oversight board.
