{"id":1162,"date":"2009-09-07T09:23:03","date_gmt":"2009-09-07T09:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1162"},"modified":"2009-09-07T09:23:03","modified_gmt":"2009-09-07T09:23:03","slug":"a_reasonable_alternative_to_th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1162","title":{"rendered":"A Reasonable Alternative To The Current Healthcare Proposals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052970204731804574390683768374864.html\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>&nbsp;posted an article by John Shadegg and Pete Hoekstra suggesting ways to fix our healthcare problems without a government takeover of the entire healthcare system.<\/p>\n<p>Some of their suggestions were:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p>Patient choice&#8211;the government so closely regulates the healthcare industry (and the tax code rewards the status quo which puts healthcare under employers).&nbsp; People&nbsp;should have&nbsp;the right to&nbsp;decide independently what healthcare they want.<\/p>\n<p>Allowing people to purchase their own healthcare with untaxed dollars, providing cheaper insurance for individuals who turn down their employer-funded plans.<\/p>\n<p>State-based risk pools to allow people with pre-existing conditions to be insured.<\/p>\n<p>Using healthcare vouchers to allow low income people to purchase health insurance, but keeping the government out of the healthcare business.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The basic idea of the plan suggested is to make it easier for Americans to buy health insurance and to make Americans responsible for their own healthcare.&nbsp; I think that&#8217;s a much better idea than a government takeover of the healthcare industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Friday&#8217;s Wall Street Journal&nbsp;posted an article by John Shadegg and Pete Hoekstra suggesting ways to fix our healthcare problems without a government takeover of the entire healthcare system.
