{"id":1110,"date":"2009-08-20T08:37:16","date_gmt":"2009-08-20T08:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1110"},"modified":"2009-08-20T08:37:16","modified_gmt":"2009-08-20T08:37:16","slug":"some_behind_the_scenes_aspects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1110","title":{"rendered":"Some Behind The Scenes Aspects Of The Healthcare Debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The healthcare debate is heating up, despite the fact that Congress is in recess.&nbsp; There are a few aspects of this debate which have been somewhat under-the-radar that need to be looked at.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2009\/08\/024322.php\">Power Line<\/a>&nbsp;ran an article yesterday detailing who the White House has hired to manage the advertising campaign to promote the Congressional healthcare bill.&nbsp; The article points out:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Glenn (Reynolds of Instapundit)also quotes Politico&#8217;s <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/bensmith\/0809\/GOP_targets_Axs_ties.html?showall\"><strong><font color=\"#4b61a7\"><em>Ben Smith<\/em><\/font><\/strong><\/a><em>: &#8220;It&#8217;s hard to imagine a situation in which, say, Karl Rove was still getting checks from a firm that was, in turn, employed by the drug lobby not drawing fire from the left, and Axelrod&#8217;s arrangement is, a bit belatedly, getting that attention.&#8221; Hugh Hewitt cites <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=newsarchive&amp;sid=aV3dLt6wmZH4\"><strong><font color=\"#4b61a7\"><em>this Bloomberg story<\/em><\/font><\/strong><\/a><em> and calls it <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/hughhewitt.townhall.com\/blog\/g\/7649acb6-4b41-478a-848d-a55aa566ca6f\"><strong><font color=\"#4b61a7\"><em>David Axelrod&#8217;s very big problem<\/em><\/font><\/strong><\/a><em>.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There is an obvious conflict of interest here that is being ignored, but let&#8217;s look at some of the other aspects of the story.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0809\/26251.html\">Politico<\/a>&nbsp;is reporting:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>&#8220;House Democrats are probing the nation&#8217;s largest insurance companies for lavish spending, demanding reams of compensation data and schedules of retreats and conferences.<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>&#8220;Letters sent to 52 insurance companies by Democratic leaders demand extensive documents for an examination of &#8216;extensive compensation and other business practices in the health insurance industry.&#8217;&nbsp; The letters set a deadline of Sept. 14 for the documents.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Meanwhile, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanthinker.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/the_waxman_inquisition.html\">American Thinker<\/a>&nbsp;reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<div itxtvisited=\"1\"><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\" itxtvisited=\"1\"><em>&#8220;Nick Choate, a spokesman for Stupak (Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich), Chairman of House Energy and Commerce investigations and oversight subcommittee), said 52 letters were sent late Monday to the nation&#8217;s largest health insurers, those with $2 billion or more in annual premiums. He said letters were <u itxtvisited=\"1\">not<\/u> sent to other industry groups, some of which have been airing television advertising <u itxtvisited=\"1\">in support<\/u> of Obama&#8217;s call for legislation.
