{"id":1091,"date":"2009-08-14T13:56:47","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T13:56:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1091"},"modified":"2009-08-14T13:56:47","modified_gmt":"2009-08-14T13:56:47","slug":"why_i_never_believe_campaign_p","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1091","title":{"rendered":"Why I Never Believe Campaign Promises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I will admit to being a political junkie.&nbsp; I follow political campaigns and listen to what is said.&nbsp; Sometimes I think there are some really good ideas put out, but I am more than a little cynical about ever seeing any campaign promise actually kept.&nbsp; Well, here&#8217;s another one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/leading-the-news\/pork-barrel-spending-increases-in-2009-2009-08-13.html\">The Hill<\/a> is reporting that pork barrel (earmark) spending has increased in 2009.&nbsp; According to the article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>&#8220;Earmarks, which are inserted in appropriations bills by members in<br \/>\norder to fund specific projects, added up to $19.9 billion in 2009,<br \/>\naccording to an analysis by the Taxpayers for Common Sense and Center<br \/>\nfor Responsive Politics. Earmarks in 2008 spending bills were worth<br \/>\n$18.3 billion.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>&#8220;The member of Congress to win the most earmark money was Cochran, whose<br \/>\nearmarks added up to $1.22 billion. They included funds for repairs to<br \/>\nhurricane damage at an Army ammunition plant and for construction at<br \/>\nthe University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;The House<br \/>\nmember with the most earmark money was Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-Iowa),<br \/>\nwhose earmarks totaled $217 million.
