{"id":1059,"date":"2009-08-03T06:41:43","date_gmt":"2009-08-03T06:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1059"},"modified":"2009-08-03T06:41:43","modified_gmt":"2009-08-03T06:41:43","slug":"the_law_of_unintended_conseque_3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=1059","title":{"rendered":"The Law Of Unintended Consequences As It Applies To Buying A Car"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Barone has posted an article at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/articles\/2009\/08\/03\/beware_the_high_cost_of_unintended_consequences_97734.html\">Real Clear Politics<\/a>&nbsp;today about the unintended consequences of the &#8216;Cash for Clunkers&#8217; program.&nbsp; The program was suspended Thursday night (while Congress tries to further fund it),&nbsp; The House passed a bill to add another $2 billion to the program, but the Senate wants to make its voice heard.&nbsp; According to <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/leading-the-news\/clunkers-bill-could-face-tougher-road-in-senate-2009-08-02.html\">The Hill<\/a>&nbsp;yesterday,&nbsp; Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) released a statement that said the price of their support to extend it would be tougher mileage standards.<\/p>\n<p>According to Michael Barone:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Mind you, the government hasn&#8217;t yet shelled out the $1 billion authorized for Cash for Clunkers. Dealers reduce the buyers&#8217; prices and have to <nobr><a class=\"GVAdLink\" id=\"GVLINK_2_0_0\" href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/articles\/2009\/08\/03\/beware_the_high_cost_of_unintended_consequences_97734.html#\"><font color=\"#006600\">apply<\/font><\/a><\/nobr> to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the rebates and NHTSA &#8212; surprise, surprise &#8212; has only managed to process 23,000 of an estimated 250,000 applications. The checks, we are told, will be in the mail. Oh, there&#8217;s another problem: The dealers are required to destroy the clunkers, which will reduce the supply and increase the price of spare parts for those low-<nobr><a class=\"GVAdLink\" id=\"GVLINK_3_0_2\" href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/articles\/2009\/08\/03\/beware_the_high_cost_of_unintended_consequences_97734.html#\"><font color=\"#006600\">income<\/font><\/a><\/nobr> folks who can&#8217;t afford to trade their clunkers in even with a $4,500 subsidy.
