The only budget in the past three years proposed by a Democrat was President Obama&#8217;s, and it was voted down by the Senate 97 to 0 (according to <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/news\/163345-obama-budget-receives-zero-votes-in-senate-\">The Hill<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/biggovernment.com\/publius\/2011\/11\/21\/jordans-revenge-back-to-plan-a-cut-cap-balance\/\">Big Government<\/a>\u00a0posted a more accurate evaluation of where we are and how we got here by Representative Jim Jordan:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Helvetica','sans-serif'; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #333333;\">Jordan Responds to the Super Committee\u2019s Lack of Agreement<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong><strong style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Washington, DC<\/span><\/strong><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u2013 Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan offered the following statement after the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction failed to come to agreement, triggering $1.2 trillion of automatic spending cuts over a ten year period beginning in 2013:<\/span><\/em><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201c<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;\"><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Throughout the year, the Republican Study Committee has offered solutions to address the debt crisis, including the Cut, Cap and Balance plan that passed the House with bipartisan support. \u00a0But instead of a solution, Washington wanted a deal, and thus the Super Committee was created.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;\"><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><\/em><em style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; line-height: 18pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cI want to thank our Republican leadership for holding the line on taxes. \u00a0Higher taxes do not create jobs \u2013 they only serve to feed Washington\u2019s insatiable appetite to spend.\u201d<\/em><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201c<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;\"><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I also want to thank Co-Chairman Jeb Hensarling for his leadership in trying to find bipartisan solutions to stop the out-of-control spending in a town that has only balanced its budget five times in the past 50 years. \u00a0Unfortunately, this exercise has further proven that the liberal appetite for bigger government and higher taxes outweighs everything else.\u201d<\/span><\/em><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201c<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;\"><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Though President Obama acknowledged that entitlement programs are some of the biggest drivers of our debt, he has failed to show any leadership in trying to save them. \u00a0Predictably, the tax-and-spend Democrats on the Joint Select Committee fell in line right behind him. \u00a0Their failure of leadership could doom these important safety net programs.\u201d<\/span><\/em><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201c<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;\"><em style=\"line-height: 18pt;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Moving forward, there are clear and responsible ways to solve our debt and economic problems without raising taxes. \u00a0I encourage Congressional leaders to advance the Republican Study Committee\u2019s concrete solutions to create jobs, reduce spending, and balance the budget.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; text-decoration: none;\">RSC Budget for FY 2012<\/span><\/a>\u00a0balances the federal budget in less than ten years and institutes reforms that will protect seniors and help save Americans\u2019 health care safety net.<\/em><em style=\"color: #333333; font-style: normal; text-decoration: none;\">Jobs Through Growth Act<\/span><\/a>, cuts through red tape, creates a simpler and fairer tax code, and tears down barriers to energy production. In short, it creates jobs by growing the economy, not the government<\/em><em style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; line-height: 18pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;\"><em style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 11.5pt; line-height: 18pt; font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">H.R. 1167, the\u00a0<a style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/rsc.jordan.house.gov\/Solutions\/wra.htm\"><span style=\"color: #1b8be0; font-style: normal; text-decoration: none;\">Welfare Reform Act<\/span><\/a>, builds upon the successful reforms of 1996, paves the way to find efficiencies in the 70+ federal welfare programs, and returns welfare spending to pre-recession levels once unemployment falls to 6.5%.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is a much more accurate picture of the history of the budget battle than the one given by President Obama. Higher taxes on the rich will not solve anything&#8211;they will only promote class warfare&#8211;one of the major talking points the Democrat party will use in the 2012 election cycle. We don&#8217;t need to punish people who have worked hard to be successful. Taking money away from people who work hard and giving it to other people does not encourage anyone to work hard.
