{"id":10255,"date":"2011-11-18T13:19:00","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T18:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=10255"},"modified":"2011-11-18T13:19:00","modified_gmt":"2011-11-18T18:19:00","slug":"america-used-to-be-a-good-influence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=10255","title":{"rendered":"America Used To Be A Good Influence&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2011\/nov\/17\/obamas-kenyan-move\/\">Washington Times<\/a>\u00a0reported today on a federal program that\u00a0funneled $18 million in taxpayer cash to a number of groups in Kenya, at least one of which openly worked to reverse the African country\u2019s ban on killing the unborn.\u00a0U.S. law prohibits lobbying for or against abortion with foreign aid money.<\/p>\n<p>How did the Obama administration get around the law? The article explains:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/united-states-agency-for-international-development\/\">U.S. Agency for International Development<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/united-states-agency-for-international-development\/\">USAID<\/a>) skirted the ban by using grant recipients to help re-write the country\u2019s charter. \u201cThe groups that were supported are the pro-abortion groups in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/kenya\/\">Kenya<\/a> &#8211; not just some group that may have an interest,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/christopher-h-smith\/\">Rep. Christopher H. Smith<\/a> told The Washington Times. The New Jersey Republican was one of the three members who asked government auditors to perform a full investigation of how taxpayer funds were spent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article further reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>In 2008, the government of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/kenya\/\">Kenya<\/a> charged a \u201ccommittee of experts\u201d with drafting a new constitution that would be presented to voters for approval. This committee\u2019s original draft only stated that \u201cevery person has the right to life.\u201d The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/international-development-law-organization\/\">International Development Law Organization<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/international-development-law-organization\/\">IDLO<\/a>), which took $400,000 in administration cash, provided \u201cinput\u201d to the committee.
