Tax Policies Do Impact Employment

CBS News posted a story yesterday detailing the impact of the Medical Device Tax included in ObamaCare on jobs in the medical device industry. The information about the impact was taken from a survey of the Advanced Medical Technology Association.

The article reports:

“According to the report, the tax has led to employment reductions of approximately 14,000 industry workers and foregone hiring of 19,000 workers,” the study stated. “The total job impact of the tax on industry employment was approximately 33,000.”

Stephen J. Ubl, CEO of AdvaMed, said this tax needs to be repealed.

“During a time when there is bipartisan support for growing high-technology manufacturing jobs, these results should serve as a wake-up call. As a result of the medical device tax, we have seen an unprecedented impact on jobs and key investments in R&D (research and development),” Ubl said. “The findings of the report underscore the need to repeal this tax.”

This is just one of the problems with ObamaCare.

The Current State Of Obamacare

Heritage.org posted an article this morning about the current state of the implementation of Obamacare. Obamacare is only partially implemented right now, next year more of the program begins to take effect. However, already there are some problems with Obamacare that Congressmen on both sides of the aisle are trying to address. The Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) Act, which provided long-term care assistance has already been scrapped because it was not financially possible.

The latest problem Obamacare has encountered is the medical device tax, which took effect January 1 of this year.

The article reports:

A group of 18 Senators, including such outspoken Democrats as Al Franken (MN), John Kerry (MA), Charles Schumer (NY), and Debbie Stabenow (MI), asked Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to delay the tax, which falls on every item used in medical treatments, from stents to syringes, IV tubes, and prosthetics.

…Even Democratic governors are unsure about this law. Many governors are weighing the costs of setting up a state health exchange and expanding their already troubled Medicaid programs. The nation’s governors, like the U.S. Congress, are figuring out that Obamacare is an unworkable monstrosity.

Now that we have passed the bill, we are beginning to find out what was in it.
